Strategies for Object-Oriented Technology Transfer

00 has won the battle, but the war is not yet over. Success stories have been reported. Reuse has been observed in practice. Work is progressing to deal with a full lifecycle and to tackle mega systems. While the transition to 00 may or may not be obvious for an individual, it is a complex affair? if not a nightmare, for large organizations. Programmers in divisions are often eager to go 00, their managers are often hesitant. A recurring question is how to deal with the large body of existing software that must keep running while at the same time it becomes more and more of a liability. Corporate software research may be “miles ahead” of what goes on in divisions, but it is not obvious how to transfer these insights and practices into divisional trenches.
